What’s the point? Imagine a desktop widget that lookslike a speedometer – but it’s tracking the processor utilization ofyour favorite server. That’s pretty cool. The widgets can even integrateinto the Vista Sidebar. They can connect to SQL Server to create visualrepresentations of data there – maybe extract some info from your SMSdatabase, for example, and display a chart of machines which are Vista-capable.As more machines are upgraded, and as SMS inventories them, your little chartwill fill itself in automagically.
This is very sexy stuff. In fact, the biggest trick will beconvincing yourself that it’s easy, becausein the past this type of stuff would have taken gobs of time to code and writein .NET.
As more third-party Windows PowerShell add-ins start toappear on the landscape, I’ll blog about them here. I’ll also beadded a Windows PowerShell Resources page to ScriptingAnswers.com – checkit out at http://www.ScriptingAnswers.com/pshresources.asp.And be sure to drop me a line (don@scriptinganswers.com)with any PowerShell add-ins you’ve run across!
