Here at Microsoft Tech-Ed, we’ve been asked a number of times about upgrade pricing from PrimalScript 4.0 to 4.1, when it’s released this Fall. Here’s the official story (which will be posted at www.primalscript.com/psnextpreview.asp when we get back to the office):
When 4.1 is released, 4.0 owners will receive an e-mail to their registered e-mail address. This e-mail will offer a free upgrade to 4.0 – but the offer will only be good for 30 days. After the 30-day period, upgrades will require the purchase of a new 4.1 license. Around the same time, we will make a software assurance program available. This will offer free upgrades for a 1-, 2-, or 3-year period, for all new releases during that period.
Again: All 4.0 customers will receive 4.1 free of charge, provided they redeem the upgrade offer within the first 30 days.
If you’re currently using an older version of PrimalScript (3.1, or PrimalCode 3.1), we suggest that you upgrade to 4.0 now. You’ll still receive the 30-day offer for a free upgrade to 4.1, but please note that once 4.1 is released we will no longer offer special upgrade pricing from version 3.1. In other words, if you wait, you’ll have to pay full price, rather than upgrading. An alert e-mail will be sent to 3.1 owners’ registered e-mail addresses in the next few weeks. You can save a significant amount by upgrading to 4.0 now, and you’ll still get 4.1 for free; if you wait, however, you’ll have to purchase a new, full version in order to obtain 4.1’s great new features, including Windows PowerShell support.
