We’ve been working with Win2003 for… well, it’ll be five years when Win2008 releases. So you’re probably pretty experienced with Win2003. Why not leverage what you know about Win2003 to learn win2008?
I’ve always wondered why book authors make us “start from scratch” every time Microsoft releases a new version of Windows. Good for book sales, I guess, but who wants to wander through a 800+ page tome looking for the stuff that’s changed?
With SAPIEN Press’ new What’s New/What’s Changed series, detailed at http://www.sapienpress.com/Windows_Server_08.asp, you’ll just get the “delta” between the old version and the new. Keep everything you know, and find out what’s new and what’s changed. I’ve signed Windows guru Greg Shields to write this slim volume (he’s shooting for about 300 pages) that quickly shows you what you need to know about Windows Server 2008 – new features, changes to existing features, and detailed information about what you need to care about most. Unique in-book links to online content help cover breaking changes and provide additional detail on critical topics.
We’re aiming to have this book available for sale by February 2008 or so, which is roughly when Win2008 itself will probably be generally available (post-manufacturing). In the meantime, why not check out Greg’s blog at http://realtime-windowsserver.com/? You can start to get a feel for his writing, and let him know what you’re curious about in Win2008!
Please !! Please !! make sure this book comes as eBook. Also one question I have, since win2008 is not even RTMed how come you warrant there won;t be any change further to features. In short will it be worth buying way before it is released.
Interesting that you ask. We do plan to make it available as an eBook. The PRINT book will not be released until AFTER RTM. However, we’re considering an "Early Look" program similar to O’Reily’s "Rough Cut" series where you could pre-purchase the final edition, and gain early access to the electronic ediiton before it’s finished.
