Cannot initialize PowerShell engine

Post by jack_nuclear »

I have a problem "Cannot initialize PowerShell engine" when trying to run any script from the "Run" button (PS5) with PowerShell Studio on the latest builds:
  • 5.8.203_040622_x64
    5.8.204_042522_x64
    5.8.205_042622_x64
    5.8.206_050522_x64
5.8.197_122221_x64 works without problems

I am trying blank scripts and all versions of PS7 and running from PS5. PS7 build and don't run, PS5 write error "Cannot initialize PowerShell engine"

Builded exe DONT run from all win versions (trying on windows server 2020, windows 10, windows 8.1, windows 11 not dev) BUT when I try "Run in console" - it starts and working

Product, version and build: PowerShell Studio 5.8.206_050522_x64
Operating system: Windows 11 Pro Dev 22616.1
PowerShell version(s): 5.1.22616.1, 7.2.3

PowerShell 7.2.3 support was only just added in build 5.8.206. This is the only build able to package scripts as executables in v7.2.3.

Please answer the following:
For clarification, you are unable to run scripts (Ctrl+F5) in both v5 and v7?

For clarification, does packaging scripts return the error provided in both v5 and v7?

Is PowerShell Studio installed in the default location?

Is PowerShell 7 installed in the default location?

In PS5 - error 'Cannot initialize PowerShell engine'. In PS7 - just build and don't run (exe cant be run even on win10/11/server)

Yes

brittneyr wrote: Mon May 09, 2022 7:16 am Is PowerShell 7 installed in the default location?

Yes, but it down works with build-in PS5

This is not a PS7 issue so don't focus on it. I tried deleting and it didn't help

How can I collect some logs or other information? Maybe some video of issue? It is very strange that a whole group of versions of the program does not work for me, and one works without problems

Please check the Event Viewer logs for any relevant error logs.

There is a product error log that can be found here:
C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\SAPIEN\PowerShell Studio\ErrorLog.txt

What is your PowerShell Execution Policy?
