Powershell 7 & the Activedirectory module

Post by jasonv »

To help you better we need some information from you.

*** Please fill in the fields below. If you leave fields empty or specify 'latest' rather than the actual version your answer will be delayed as we will be forced to ask you for this information. ***

Product: PowerShell Studio 2022 (64 Bit)
Build: v5.8.203
OS: Windows 10 Pro (64 Bit)
Build: v10.0.18362.0

*** Please add details and screenshots as needed below. ***

I apologize if this has been already answered. Searching for "Powershell 7" and "Activedirectoy" isn't providing results.

What do I need to do in order to get Powershell Studio to recognize the "Activedirectory" module installed using Windows 10 1903 features? It is only recognized if I select Powershell version 5. I did rebuild the cache and the active directory module is not listed in cache editor if Powershell 7 is selected.

Thanks.

Do you have your computer configured properly to use ActiveDirectory with PowerShell 7:

Thank you for the info. It is most likely a compatibility issue which I cannot fix because my org blocks access to the MS updates due to the use of SCCM. I get errors each time I run any of those commands in the article.

Our system admin helped me out and I enabled UseWUServer within the registry. All of these features within later versions of Windows 10 are now downloaded via the Windows update service. Updating the registry and then rebooting the computer fixed the problem and I was able to follow the directions you provided.

Thank you for the pointers.
