Hi,
Unless Im reading your FAQ wrong, there appears to be no advantage to getting a subscription if you intend to use the software for more than one year as the perpetual price is twice the sub price.
With the perpetual you get offline but with the sub you get nothing the perpetual doesnt?
But that also confuses me as our company has a yearly subscription but we have offline licences which I thought was only available with perpetual?
Thanks
David

Re: Perpetual vs subscription
When you set out to accommodate a variety of users it can become confusing, specially since the 'vocabulary' used sometimes varies by company and geographic location.
Subscription means you pay as you go. You pay monthly or annually, the subscription term is always a year. If your boss is not letting you buy a perpetual license but does not balk at a $25 monthly charge, this is for you. Once you cancel the subscription, at your terms end, the software stops working. You do get updates as you go along. You cannot use the software offline, except for a few days if you travel for example and are not connected.
The perpetual license's initial price splits the cost for the license and the first year of updates. After that year you can decide if you want to renew updates for another year or not. But even if you don't, the software keeps working. It can also work in offline environments. If that is what you need, perpetual is for you.
You company has perpetual licenses and renews the maintenance annually. This was previously referred to as 'maintenance subscription', which is likely where the confusion is from.
In terms of functionality, there is no difference between a subscription and a perpetual license.

Re: Perpetual vs subscription
Correct. The license is perpetual. You can use it as long as you want. Updates are not free.

Re: Perpetual vs subscription
So to use and regularly update the product you need to both purchase a single perpetual license and purchase a subscription every year?Alexander Riedel wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 4:33 pm Correct. The license is perpetual. You can use it as long as you want. Updates are not free.

Re: Perpetual vs subscription
No. Some people enjoy staying up to date and pay for the updates every year while having offline access.
Some just buy a perpetual license every few years when what they have becomes outdated.
Others buy a subscription and pay as they go. I should mention that subscriptions are tied to a credit card.
There is no requirement from our side that you must purchase annual upgrades. That is your call and very much depends on what you do.
