Unhandled exception GetSteppablePipeline...

Post by Chris_Ediger »

Product, version and build: PowerShell Studio 2018 v5.5.150
32 or 64 bit version of product: 64-bit
Operating system: Windows 10 1709
32 or 64 bit OS: 64-bit

I think this started after the recent update to 5.5.150. I click Run and I get prompted to enter credentials to connect to my DC (my script uses Get-ADUser). I enter my domain admin credentials and then I get this error:

Unhandled exception has occured in a component in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.

Exception calling "GetSteppablePipeline" with "1" arguement(s): "No session has been associated with this implicit remoting module.".
Details:
See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Re: Unhandled exception GetSteppablePipeline...

Post by Alexander Riedel »

We are not calling 'GetSteppablePipeline" from anywhere and no changes have been made recently which would account for any different handling of PowerShell code.
There is a possibility of runtime changes or system updates causing this.
What was the prior version you had installed?

I'm not sure of the previous version I had but I do keep up with updates when they are released so I probably had whatever was just before this current version.

If you have a separate machine or VM, you can download the previous version from your SAPIEN accounts page and try with that.
It would verify that it is an issue with that version or an issue with the environment or code.
Maybe something here helps:

Installed PSS on a different system and everything works as intended. I removed and reinstalled PSS on my main system and I still have the problem. It looks like it happens when PSS tries to load AD...Suggestions?

PowerShell Studio doesn't try to load AD, it is always PowerShell loading that.
I would suggest to compare all used modules (implicit and explicit) to the machine where it works.
Maybe there are different versions at play.
