Where is PS 2013?

Post by Srinath » Wed May 15, 2013 12:31 pm

PS Team,

May I know when we're going to see 2013 version of PowerShell Studio?

A must wishlists:
Automatic version increment upon each build
Robust debugging
Office Ribbon style templates for UI
More options in Packager
and finally new UI

There will be no 2013 version, the next version is 2014.

Some of your items are a bit vague:

Robust debugging:
Do you find the current debugger fragile? How so?

Office Ribbon style templates for UI:
Not supported natively in the .NET framework, so VERY unlikely

More options in Packager:
As in?

and finally new UI:
Not sure what you want there. Character based DOS style?
First person shooter?

Can we please have First-person shooter UI...that would be "killer" automation.

I want a Kinect interface, so I really can throw an exception.

Office Ribbon style templates for UI:

WPF Project type - 4.5 includes built-in ribbon control.
I won't mind if you guys consider new Windows 8 / Office 2013 UI too! :P
More options in Packager:
As in?
1. Automatic build increment
2. Package executable export location
3. Save Packager file settings
4. Need fix for incorrect executable sign confirmation message :!:
5. Custom manifest editor - too much? :)
and finally new UI:
Not sure what you want there. Character based DOS style?
First person shooter?
Nope. We need Windows 8 interface - like UI introduced in VersionRecall app!

Alex,

I would like to ask the same question again (I known it's bold) - When can I expect v2014 release?

One of my project contains more than 20 script files and several form files. I'm seeing some performance issues while generating executable.

If v2014 is close to release (like 1-3 months), I'll postpone my launch to utilize new script builder, particularly new MSI wizard feature etc. i.e., splitting and generating individual executable files for modules and ship them with MSI wizard.

Thanks!

2014 could be released anywhere from the end of the year or the beginning of 2014. There is no set date yet.

Thank you for your suggestions.

Just for clarification, PowerShell uses WinForms and not WPF, thus it will not support the WPF Ribbon within the designer. Unfortunately, we have yet to find a comparable WPF designer that is on par with the WinForms one.
