Cannot read registry

Post by louyovin »

Thinking about upgrading studio 2012 to studio 2014. Installed trial in a virtual machine. When I plug in the key I downloaded, I get an error dialog with "cannot read registry". I used run as administrator when I launched, still no joy. I am running W 8.1 (yuck). What keys is it trying to read? I will check permissions. That info might be nice in the error message  .

What version number of PowerShell Studio 2014 do you have installed on the VM?

SPS14Setup_4.1.48_031814_x64.exe
splash screen says 4.1.48. Can't get past the welcome dialog.

Do you only get the error when you try to enter the key or when the Welcome Dialog appears?

OK, the dummy went back to make sure he did it right and the key had spanned 2 lines in my email and I originally left off the "14-SPS-" part of the key. When I did it right, it worked.
Now, I had also run regedit and given Application packages full control in HKLM and HKCU. So, the real error was a short circuit between the headphones, but I am not sure about the "cannot read registry error" message. If I get some time, I will put it in another VM.
Apologies for wasting your time.

We found the problem with the incorrect error message. So it wasn't a waste of time :)

I knew that, I was just testing it for you.

More testing to do.
