One computer where the offline activation fails, when it works on all others

Post by yves.bertholet@mc.be »

Product, version and build:
32 or 64 bit version of product: 5.6.156_111418_x64
Operating system:
32 or 64 bit OS: W10_64

We have 1 computer where the offline activation license ends on a msg box: "The data read/received is not a valid format. Check internet connection and/or proxy servers. If this is an offline unlock please contact Sapien support to verify your license file"
But we know that the procedure and the license file are OK. There must be some crap left on this computer from a previous install with a trial key. The question is what do we need to clean up to have a pristine computer back?

Hello,

Sorry to hear about the activation issues. In order to help you further, please answer the following questions:

1. Are all the machines using the same version of PowerShell Studio?
2. Are you using the same license file for all the activation?
3. Try generating a new license file from our website and see if that makes a difference. It could be that the file was corrupted.

Thank you,

Activation issue: unable to start the app to register the new licence

Post by yves.bertholet@mc.be »

Forget the previous case because we will reinstall the computer. In the meantime, we paid to extend our subscription. I just generated a new licence file (SPS-9******.license). I have uninstalled and reinstalled PSS to the last version. When I start PSS, he says that he cannot contact the licence server and close. Of course he can't, that is why we use offline activation files but what if the application refuses to start? (How does such a good product fails to offer a straightforward activation mechanism. I have already spent TENS of hours in support of my 9 users..)

We don't recommend uninstalling / reinstalling in this case, because it will not affect licensing.

1. What build did you have previously installed?
2. How are you using the licensing file? Are you placing it within the following folder?

C:\ProgramData\SAPIEN\LicenseFiles

You can manually deactivate the software using the following command line parameter:

Code: Select all

PowerShell Studio.exe /DEACTIVATE
That should prevent it from trying to access the server for activation.

If you upgraded from 2018 (before 5.5.155) to 2019, then you will have to copy the license file to the LicenseFiles folder. Otherwise you will need to deactivate the software first.

Replacing the license file in C:\ProgramData\SAPIEN\LicenseFiles did the trick. Thank you.

I suggest you put this information on the Registered Software Licenses page, as well as the trick [PowerShell Studio.exe /DEACTIVATE] (just in case) because the current "How do I do that" did not help.

Best regards,
Yves
