Digital Signing Wizard cannot start

Post by PsCustomObject-2 »

Product, version and build: 2.4.145.0
32 or 64 bit version of product: 64bit
Operating system: Windows 10 1709
32 or 64 bit OS: 64bit

As per subject I'm trying to build an MSI for a module I need to deploy and when configuring the various MSI properties if I tick the Use signing Wizard to sign the MSI file I get the error "Digital Signing Wizard cannot start"

I've found another thread but it is from 2014 viewtopic.php?t=7892 and just confirmed the issue.

Certificate is in my local store and I use without any issue to sign my scripts so this seems to only affect MSI signing.

Please let me know if I can give you any further detail to reproduce the issue.

Something I've noticed, if I leave the box unticked the MSI is digitally signed without any issue.

I'm puzzled now :?:

Well, Windows can get screwed up sometimes. Basically the Wizard is a COM object and if Windows says it cannot create that object, you get that error. Signing itself uses a different mechanism, so if you just specify the certificate it should be fine.
