PSS Version: 2017 5.4.144 x64
OS Version: Windows 10 x64 Creators Update
WMF Version: 5.1
Impact: Medium
Symptom:
When using the synchronized module project feature, after opening a module project that has this feature enabled, it will synchronize properly.
Opening a second synchronized module project through the explorer (So it will open in a second window) will cause it to synchronize the project items in the first project, as if populating a previously empty project file.
Once it is done doing that - printing the output to the output panel - it will show the module you wanted to open correctly.
Thus this isn't really a functionality issue, but one of my most frequently opened module projects I work on is the dbatools module, which now consists of more than a thousand files. If it's in a righteous cause I won't complain, but in this case it unnecessarily locks the application for about a minute or two.
Reproducibility:
Create module project.
- Set it to synchronized
- Add some random files to it
Create a second module project
- Set it to synchronized
Open the first module project
Navigate in the explorer to the second project and open it by double-clicking on the psproj file.
Notes:
I have the distinct impression that the output panel is slowing execution when adding a large number of files. It may be an idea in case of a large number of files being added to summarize the changes and point to a log-file if that's the limiting factor.
