[PSS 2017][Bug] Error opening project from file

Post by Bosparan »

PSS Version: 2017 5.4.143 x64
OS Version: Windows 10 x64 Creators Update
WMF Version: 5.1

Impact: Low / Medium

Symptom:
After installing WIX from the current installer, opening a PowerShell Studio Project by double-clicking on the project file no longer works as designed.
The repair/initialization dialog pops up (see picture 1), which will soon reach the point where it keeps prompting for MSI/WIX related files it cannot file.

There is no such issue when opening a project from within the application, or launching the application by its shortcut.

This issue can be circumvented by deleting the following registry value:
HKCR:\SAPIEN.PowerShell Studio 2017.psproj\shell\open\command : command
(Which appears to contain some encrypted or highly condensed configuration/startup settings)

Reproducibility:
Installing the latest production build of WIX would probably do. Can't justify the time effort to reproduce this on the job, to make sure, alas :(

Hello,

Did you install PowerShell Studio 2017 5.4.143 or upgraded from 142?
If you used upgrade, check C:\Program Files\SAPIEN Technologies, Inc\PowerShell Studio 2017\MSIBuilder folder.
It should have 28 files and 1 folder.

In some cases upgrade didn't upgrade MSIBuilder, please re-install PowerShell Studio

Hi Olga,

thanks for the reply and advice.
Indeed, the number of files was wrong (and I think I've had every single build since 2012 in an uninterrupted stream of updated installations :) - not counting the few, rare reinstalls I had to do on broken upgrades). A Reinstallation also fixed this issue this time.

Cheers,
Fred
