After update to .141 I now get a JIT Debgger error

Post by toddkenn@gmail.com »

Product, version and build:
(*** Please do not write "latest" as a version, specify a version number ***)
32 or 64 bit version of product: 64
Operating system:
32 or 64 bit OS: 64
PowerShell Studio 2017 v5.4.141

I'm getting a JIT Debugger error now when running my Form? I just updated to 141. Is this a bug?

See the end of this message for details on invoking
just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box.

************** JIT Debugging **************
To enable just-in-time (JIT) debugging, the .config file for this
application or computer (machine.config) must have the
jitDebugging value set in the system.windows.forms section.
The application must also be compiled with debugging
enabled.

For example:

<configuration>
<system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" />
</configuration>

When JIT debugging is enabled, any unhandled exception
will be sent to the JIT debugger registered on the computer
rather than be handled by this dialog box.

Re: After update to .141 I now get a JIT Debgger error

Post by davidc »

It is hard to tell what is happening without having the script. According to the call stack, this is happening directly in the PowerShell engine itself.

Does this error also occur when you run the script directly in the console?

If you can, please upload the file here and let us know which button event causes the crash.

Thank you,

it does occur when also running from a console. I can upload the script but there are some dependencies with external DLLs and some additional script files. Might be a bit too much to upload

I don't see anything obvious in the script you provided but the exception references a Text property that doesn't exist. I suggest you set a break point in the button event handler and take it line by line until you find the problem line. Just in case, check your default ErrorAction preference and see if that is causing the problem.

Re: After update to .141 I now get a JIT Debgger error

Post by toddkenn@gmail.com »

So I see the function that contains the code that is the cause of the issue

I'm calling a function I created to remove subitems from a listview collection
Cleanup-ExistingStatus -listiviewitems $listiviewItems
  1. function Cleanup-ExistingStatus
  2. {
  3.     param (
  4.         [object]$listiviewitems
  5.     )
  6.
  7.     $listviewitems | ForEach-Object {
  8.
  9.         # we need to save the URLS and put them back after cleanup
  10.         $itemUrls = $_.subitems[4].Text
  11.
  12.         $_.subitems[2].text = ' '
  13.         $_.subitems[3].text = ' '
  14.         $_.subitems[4].text = $itemUrls
  15.     }
  16. }

The listview I'm passing contains around 20 Items with each item having subitems. I'm sure its one of the calls to the .text method of the subitem, the weird thing is that not all listview items cause the issue. some of the subitems are not bound to column headers so they don't show in the listview. I do that so I can retain related data to the listview item being worked on without showing the user that data.

Anyway, I suppose I am maybe clearing the subitems the wrong way?

Can you confirm if the exception occurs with the items that are not bound to a column?

I would also verify if the subitem actually exists (in case something went wrong).

ok so I found the issue and I also added your suggestion to check if the subitems exist before doing something with them.

The problem was a typo in the variable being passed to the function, so the variable was empty going into the function and trying to operate on a null list view.

Thanks for the assistance...
