You need to save file, and give it a name. Then you will see Designer and Script buttons.

I need more clarifications.
- How did you create original XML file?
- Did you use HelpWriter Designer mode?
- When i open your file in Designer mode the Synopsis and Note fields are empty. There is no data in original file, means nothing can be added to HTML

I can't reproduce issue here. I created template from your script, and then created new file. Everything works fine.
How did you create template? Did you use File/Create Template menu? Where did you save template?
Could you provide steps.

Autosave works on background for all named file.
And it will prompt for file name for all unsaved/unnamed files
