SAPIEN Technologies, Inc., a platinum sponsor of PowerShell Conference 2015 Asia, is proud to offer five full-conference scholarships to women in PowerShell. This 5% set-aside award is designed to encourage talented women to attend and participate in the conference.
The upcoming PowerShell Conference Asia 2015 in Singapore on 18-19 September 2015 is generating a lot of excitement. And, it should! It’s the first Windows PowerShell conference in Asia and it features talks by the preeminent experts, including Windows PowerShell inventor, Jeffrey Snover, PowerShell Lead Developer, Nana Lakshmanan, and a host of PowerShell MVPs.
Because it’s small by design — limited to just 100 attendees — it’s the kind of conference where you truly learn new skills, instead of compiling a list of subjects to learn later. Like the PowerShell Summits, it’s conducive to deep and thoughtful conversations one-on-one and in small groups with the people who develop the language and create its best solutions.
Sadly, women are very underrepresented at user groups and conferences. We know there are talented women out there using Windows PowerShell in creative ways and we need to encourage them to attend our events, develop their skills, and share their knowledge.
To encourage their participation, SAPIEN Technologies, Inc., in cooperation with PowerShell Conference 2015 Asia, is offering five scholarships — 5% of the 100 attendees — to women in PowerShell. We’ll give preference to women who live and work in Asia and Australia, to those who use Windows PowerShell regularly, and to those who might not otherwise be able to attend. The scholarship covers the registration fee only, not travel or lodging. Scholarship recipients are invited to the Speaker’s Dinner and will have backstage access to the speakers.
This scholarship is designed for attendees. Women are absolutely encouraged to sign up to speak and to take advantage of the generous package available to all speakers.
To apply for a scholarship, send an email to Imelda Atmojo at firstname.lastname@example.org by 15 August 2015. Introduce yourself, describe your experience and interest in Windows PowerShell, and demonstrate your eligibility for this award. Apply today! Don’t wait. We’ll consider applications in the order that they are received.
While “women hold up half the sky,” we hope to establish this 5% set-aside as a baseline for all PowerShell events. We hope to increase the number of women who attend every year and, eventually, have enough women that special encouragement just isn’t necessary.
How can you help? Please spread the word that these scholarships are available and encourage women in your PowerShell community to apply and attend. And, whenever possible, implement at least a 5% set-aside so that women in the community find their places at the speaker’s podium and in the audience.
