SAPIEN Licensing Policies

Thursday, March 18th, 2010 by Ferdinand Rios
Let's face it, End User Licensing Agreements (EULAs) are a pain in the butt. Long drawn-out legalese that nobody reads (OK, some people read them but they are usually lawyers and they like that kind of stuff.) But for the rest of us, when that EULA dialog pops up in the installer, we pretty much all click "OK" to get past the screen without reading it. So since you didn't read that EULA, how do you know what you can and cannot do with the software you just purchased? Well, let's take a look at the most common questions we…   More »

Moving to Windows 7: 32 or 64 bit

Monday, October 12th, 2009 by Alex Riedel
Just recently I had to replace the hard drive in a friends notebook. Since everything has to be installed from scratch anyway, the friend asked that I install Windows 7 (RTM for now) and asked if he should go with the 64 bit version. I know a lot of folks recommend that you should immediately go to 64 bit if your processor can run it, but I was a bit more skeptical and installed both and did some test under each OS. The laptop in question is a 2 year old SONY Vaio with a decent screen, new 500GB hard…   More »

Software licensing and virtual machines

Sunday, November 9th, 2008 by Alex Riedel
I recently had a "collision" with the vendor of a major installer software package. Basically I had, unbeknownst to me, used up the three installations I was allowed to make by getting a new computer and re-creating my virtual machines a year ago. When I attempted to create another virtual machine and install the software I was informed that I could not unlock this anymore. A email conversation with their support revealed that a) I have only three (3) allowed installationsb) I am supposed to uninstall the software before re-imaging    a hard drive or a VM to free up these…   More »

A Thousand Things 1% Better

Saturday, September 27th, 2008 by Alex Riedel
That was the title of a recent blog post by Jeffery Snover on the PowerShell team blog. I recently had the privilege of sitting down with Jeffery Snover and the PowerShell team and just talk about bits and pieces in PowerShell and PrimalScript. One question I was asked was what I would think the PowerShell team could do to make PowerShell's acceptance become even faster moving. I am flattered that they thought I had an answer to that, so I'll give it a shot. And sticking with Jeff's "A Thousand Things 1% Better" theme, I'll pick something that can easily…   More »

Australia Tech-Ed Wrap-up

Thursday, September 11th, 2008 by Ferdinand Rios
Last week I spent an amazing time in Sydney, Australia attending the Tech-Ed conference there. While smaller than the North American show held recently in Orlando, this show was nonetheless vibrant and exciting. Sydney is an awesome cosmopolitan city. You can find just about whatever form of entertainment you are looking for there; there is a broad selection of dining, drinking etc. The people are warm hearted and we had several beautiful spring days while there. We were lucky that these days occurred while we had the time before the conference to enjoy them. The conference hours were fairly intense, but that just gave…   More »

SAPIEN Down Under

Monday, September 1st, 2008 by Ferdinand Rios
Today starts our week long exhibit at TechEd Australia. It's a nice little show, quite a bit smaller than TechEd Orlando, but it is a very nice setup. Everyone is very friendly and very excited about PrimalScript. Quite a few of the attendees are aware of us and we have spoken to a number of users who just love PrimalScript. This evening was the traditional Cocktail Party. Tomorrow is a long exhibit day which will give us more one on one time with potential users. It is shaping up to be a great show! …   More »

The road ahead and the path traveled

Thursday, August 28th, 2008 by Alex Riedel
As our development team gets ready to focus entirely on PrimalScript 2009 and some other, still very secret, new products, it is time to look back on PrimalScript 2007’s path. It is hard to believe it has only been one year. Since its initial release in August 2007 a total of 39 new features have been added through the monthly service builds (taken from the change log): 1. ScriptPackager can now produce signed executable files. 2. ScriptPackager now supports injecting a manifest file into generated executable files. 3. ScriptPackager now supports setting the version information of the generated exe. 4.…   More »

PowerShell, VBScript, Shells and Cmdlets

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 by Alex Riedel
We are currently running a survey about PowerShell adoption. If you haven't had a chance yet to participate, please go here to do so: Take the survey I would like to thank all those who already took the survey for participating and for leaving a huge amount of very interesting comments. One thing that really stands out from all the comments is that those enthusiastic about PowerShell totally get it and dive into it. Then there are those who haven't had a chance to look at it yet or only briefly touched it. One comment sums up this feeling pretty…   More »

It is with great pleasure that I can report that PrimalScript has once again been honored with two top magazine awards: the Redmond Magazine Reader's Choice award for best scripting tool and the Windows ITPro Magazine Editor's Best Award (silver) for scripting tools.
